Adam and Eve, Oil on Canvas,1990s, Diana Winkfield

‘Adam and Eve’ was made as part of a series of paintings Diana created in her studio at the Westbury Farm Studios in the early 1990s.

Diana wanted to express the seeming simplicity of the creation of mankind, using primitive forms and gestures to represent the complex human form and the significance of the moment. To echo this idea, she used bright primary colours and flattened out forms.

Speaking to us about this artwork, Diana said that the work - showing Adam and Eve from the biblical creation story - mirrored the creation of the New Town of Milton Keynes. People often comment that the sun and moon in the painting look like the original lampposts of Milton Keynes.
