Free creative course 

A 10-week creative course for young people
Attendance by booking / referral only

Artist Susan-Erskine Jones delivered this 10-week course exploring themes of art and nature for young people. The workshops encouraged an awareness and appreciation of the natural world through creativity to support participants’ wellbeing by using and taking inspiration from materials found in the calming surroundings of Milton Keynes Arts Centre and grounds of Great Linford Manor Park.

Over the 10 weeks, Susan also introduced other artists in order to give participants hands-on experience of making ceramics, book making , textiles and natural dyes; as well as of working with collage, printmaking, painting and drawing.

Week 1: A walk in Great Linford Manor Park, foraging for materials to make and mixed media artworks
Week 2: Concertina book making with Sarah Russell
Week 3: Relief collagraph print making
Week 4: Hand building ceramic vessels, with Emi Fujisawa
Week 5: Nature loom weaving
Week 6: Eco-Dying, indigo bags with Ciara Callaghan
Week 7: Glazing ceramics with Emi Fujisawa and drawing using natural tools 
Week 8: Felt Making with Anne-Marie Abbate
Week 9: Mono-printing found objects
Week 10: Zine book making

Who is this course for?
The programme was designed to support young people ages 12 – 16, in the Milton Keynes area who may be feeling the effects of the pandemic upon their physical and mental wellbeing.  

About the Artist:
Susan Erskine-Jones is a painter, printmaker and art tutor with ten years’ experience in delivering mixed media workshops to students of all ages. Her interest is in overlooked objects and the common place. Artists’ website: https://www.erskine-jones.com
