Flowers, Ferns & Insects, acrylic on paper, 30 x 30 cm
(NFS, commissions available)

Over months of lockdown many of us have become more aware of the nature around us; with less cars on the road the bird song sounds louder, the colours and scent of fresh spring flowers seems glorious. On our daily exercise we discovered ‘new’ landscapes our doorsteps. Artist Mel Kidd-White has used this as the inspiration for her recent artworks.

“I painted this picture during lockdown. I love flowers but especially wild flowers. Where you get flowers you get insects collecting pollen. Walks in spring inspired me to paint this colourful picture.” [Mel Kidd-White]

Cardoon Thistle with Bees, acrylic on paper, 30 x 30 cm
(NFS, commissions available)

With time at home we have become aware of the hive of insect activity in our back gardens and local green spaces, such as the bees on this large Cardoon Thistle which itself seems so characterful as the heads open up to reveal a mass of purple ‘hair’.
