This sculpture was commissioned to celebrate the new Endoscopy and Ward 22 building at Milton Keynes University Hospital in 2009.
The artist worked with staff from the Endoscopy Unit and learnt about the procedures and equipment used in the department. This consultation helped to inform elements of the sculpture design.
The word “Endoscopy” means “to look inside”. This inspired the use of curved linear components, which lead the eye around and through the sculpture. The artwork uses flowing forms and geometric shapes in an uplifting composition. Themes such as supporting, holding and resting are suggested.
Paul Lewthwaite is a sculptor based in the UK. He has an international reputation and is an elected Associate of the Royal British Society of Sculptors.
