The Feet of Those

Location: Milton Keynes University Hospital
A celebration of charity workers supporting those in greatest need.
Over a six month period artist Alastair Gordon worked alongside the London City Mission charity team to create this collective portrait, documenting the shoes of 70 members of the team. The paintings form a Cabinet of Curiosities which provides an overview of the charity. A selection of 50 of the paintings is on display here.
Through using traditional painting method called Trompe l’oeil, the artist has created the optical illusion that depicts the shoes in three-dimensions. Leaving part of the surface unpainted gives the effect of the shoes resting on a wooden floor.
The Feet of Those was commissioned by London City Mission to celebrate their 180th anniversary.
